♡ Sketchy Brett
My work explores the themes of joy and power. I was raised in South Africa and shaped by overland journeys across the continent, first as a wide-eyed child, later as a curious adult. Those miles gave me more than memories. They gave me a deep love for different cultures, and a respect for the quiet language of symbolism, adornment, gesture, and presence.
I work exclusively in charcoal and pastel, using its raw honesty to reveal the spirit of people and landscapes that refuse to be tamed. My cultural portraits honour individuality and presence, celebrating moments of joy and the strength that lives beneath them. My wildlife works are dynamic and alive, forged from first-hand time in the African bush. Horses recur throughout my practice as studies of raw power and untamed spirit.
Alongside these, my Human Figure Studies explore vulnerability, strength, and freedom through expressive form. Whatever the subject, I’m always chasing the same thing: art that changes a space. Art that holds atmosphere. Art that creates an emotion, tells a story, and stays with you long after you’ve left the room.
I sign every piece ♡ Sketchy Brett, because every artwork is one of my love letters to the world.
